Some of my earliest memories are of exploring the woods in my home state of Pennsylvania and discovering strange plants, animals, and fungi on the forest floor. Nature has always nurtured my curiosity, and I am happy to call Washington my home since 2008. I currently live in Shoreline, where I work as an artist, illustrator and designer. My daily walks keep me inspired and appreciative of the beauty around me and within. I owe a debt of gratitude to fungi for nourishing and healing me and my loved ones in body, mind, and spirit. Fungi are endlessly fascinating and bizarre companions on this journey. I'm honored to be a part of the OPFF team and to contribute my talents to this amazing event. Artist & Founder of I Am Cathey Art
Art signed as Cathey

My art is born from a journey of healing, remembrance, and reconnection. After overcoming alcoholism, I began exploring the natural tools available to restore my mind, body, and spirit. A short period of micro-dosing with psychedelic mushrooms helped lift the emotional weight I had carried for years. I supported that process with Lion’s Mane to rebuild cognitive clarity — and from there, something profound began to awaken.

I started painting again after nearly 30 years. But this time, it wasn’t just for fun. It was a return—to joy, to creativity, to something deep within myself that had been buried for a long time. I now paint as part of a daily practice of meditation, self-inquiry, and connection to something greater than myself.

My work isn’t meant to be “trippy” or trendy — it’s meant to invite people into a vibration of peace, wonder, and inner freedom. When I paint for mushroom-related events, I see it as an opportunity to express the unseen world these medicines help us remember. But this is just one part of the journey. My art is about transformation itself — personal, collective, and universal.

I’m not here to fit into a scene or a stereotype. I’m here to create from the heart, to share what I’ve found, and to surprise people with something they didn’t know they needed.
